The entire Kahuna Creations Team wishes all of you an incredible Holiday Season! We are proud of all of our products and can't wait for you to give them a try!
]]>Tell me this isn’t you sometime during the day…
You’re off.
You’re tired and that makes you easily annoyed. You’re having problems concentrating and a little distracted. You’re a little lost.
You know you shouldn't turn to energy drinks and supplements day after day…there's the natural energy teas and other more healthy options but those don't re-wire your whole body and mind to feel better and energized, and that's what you really need; a realistic way to feel like your natural strong, vital self.
Brain fog apparently is a thing. There is an answer!
Get UP. You need to move your body
This is the hard part. Your body wants to just sit and sink into a chair.
Don’t give in.
Your body needs movement and your soul needs to relax and be at peace, not the other way around. Ok now what should you do? Running is a bit much, you have too much to do to come back all sweaty. Swimming would be refreshing but then you'd need to shower and it all takes too much time. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to go out and get a quick paddle boarding session? No place to go around work…
Here is an alternative:
Go Land paddling! Land paddling is a fun way to get outside and get a quick, fun energy blast. You get on a big longboard, rather than pushing with your foot, you grab a land paddle and go!
Each stroke takes away your stress, energizes your whole body from the tips of your toes to the top of your head. As you stroke across the streets, your mind settles down.
There is something about board riding. When you ride your troubles vanish. Your mind and soul, for an instant, connect with something deep inside of you. Energy that has been zapped from your being starts to fill up as you paddle. You start to feel the movement under your feet, the wind in your face, and the connection between your entire body as you paddle. It’s truly a thing of beauty to ride.
Whether you go out for 2 minutes or 2 miles, when you get back, you are ready to hit the day hard again.
Kahuna Creations has created resources to get you started. Land Paddling 101 online courses are available for easy-to-learn process to get going. The learning curve is quite quick…nothing like snowboarding. Land paddling videos show the progression of the activity.
You may tell yourself, “self, I am too old to do this and I don’t want to fall”. In fact, after several user studies, the median age for a Kahuna Creations land paddling user is 44. The bulk of our users are in their 30s, 40s and 50s. With the Kahuna Creations’ land paddle, you don’t fall! Since your feet are planted securely on the longboard, your body is free to paddle and glide. If you become a bit off balance, you have that third point of contact to catch yourself. On the swing side, if you're already a board rider, having a land paddle makes inaccessible paths free to ride!
To make it easier to get rolling, here is a 45% off discount code just for you.

Now go ride!

The workout benefits of the patented Kahuna Creations' land paddling abounds! Riders not only work their arms, their complete core is targeted on each stroke. The stabilizing muscles throughout the body are strengthened...from the more than 100 muscles, tendons and ligaments in the feet, all of which work together to provide support, balance and mobility; through all the 850 muscles throughout the human body. All work together in harmony.
The great aspect of Kahuna Creations' land paddling is the ability to easily learn how to ride and land paddle. The Big Stick gives riders that third point of contact to make riding easy to learn. Kahuna Creations' Landpaddling 101 classes were created to provide a step-by-step progression on how to get up and ride!
Many of Kahuna Creations' riders have been initially concerned about the learning curve and worried about falling. The beautiful result of land paddling is each person, no matter what their physical coordination is, can ride. Once the rider gets comfortable with the basics of Landpaddling 101 lessons, the learning curve is incredibly fast, fun and safe!
Kahuna Creations' riders age ranges from youngsters to riders in their 80s! Everyone can do it and have fun at the level they are comfortable with. Kahuna Creations' longboards are super stable and forgiving.
Yes, the physical benefits of land paddling are awesome! The mental benefits perhaps are even more beneficial...
"There is something about board riding. When you ride, all your troubles vanish. Your mind and soul, for an instant, connect with something sacred. Our goal is to give everyone, of all ages, that feeling…Once you get it, no one can ever take it away!" Kahuna Creations' founder, Steve McBride.
It is so invigorating to take a lunch break or mid afternoon break to get out side, hop on your Kahuna Longboard, grab you Kahuna Big Stick and start landpaddling! Once you get back from your ride, you're ready for the rest of your day with your mind and body clear for going back to hitting work hard.

]]>Since the very first humans learned how to build boats and discovered the paddle thousands of years ago, the water paddle has evolved.
In present day, paddles are used for all sorts of vessels. Paddles are relatively similar, each paddle has some sort of blade that has enough surface area to push enough water to move across the water and a shaft to connect the blade to the hand grip and provide leverage.
Back in 2005, I was stranded. I received a call from my auto repair service letting me know my car was repaired and ready for pickup. I ran into a problem, I live miles away from the repair service and had no ride to pick it up. It occurred to me that I own a longboard company and thought I should just take one of our longboards and ride over to the shop and pick up my car. For the first couple of miles, I was feeling good, the ride was mostly downhill. I kept pushing (kicking) that longboard for miles and miles. By the time I arrived at the repair shop, my legs were trashed. I typically kick with my left leg and ride the board with my right foot forward. One leg was on fire for pushing all those miles, the other leg was thrashed from being up on the board the entire way. My back was hosed. My spine was feeling the strain from bending constantly forward as well as sidewards.
That experience got me thinking...there has got to be a better way to ride a skateboard or longboard. As I started watching many long boarders and skaters kick and kick and kick to move their board, I thought to myself that has got to be terrible on the body, especially as you get older. As you get tired, the exposure to injuries increase because as you continue to kick and kick, eventually your feed could get hung up on your board and knock you off balance.
I developed a completely new perspective. It dawned on me! There has got to be a way! How about making a paddle for board riders? After making several prototypes, introducing to the market the first land paddle, our journey just began.
After years of R & D, Kahuna Creations has delivered the absolute best solution for land paddling. It has been tricky developing a paddle for the land because you don't push water like you do from a vessel, you are "paddling" on top of the road. The genius behind the design is to provide the rider with full power generation throughout the stroke. We developed a "road blade" that provides a smooth stroke throughout the entire motion. Envision a swimmer that reaches way out in front to "pull" the water, then transitions to a "push" as she completes the stroke. The same method is used with land paddling. The Kahuna Creations Road Blade is the key to making it all happen. The blade is engineered to provide grip as the rider reaches in front to "pull" against the road, then as the stroke transitions to a "push" the Road Blade maintains the grip throughout the stroke.
The Road Grip is designed with an "undulated" or wave like form that provides constant, smooth contact with the road throughout the stroke. The geometry of the blade reflects the stroking angles on the road. The product is also designed with several dampening holes, of varying size and length, each of which provide the perfect "feel" throughout the stroke and dampen the effects of the road to keep everything smooth.
The design is a organically beautiful and yet simple. Anybody can have a great experience land paddling.
The Kahuna Creations' land paddle experience is incredible. The learning curve is surprisingly quick. To get started, simply get your longboard and Kahuna Big Stick out to an open, flat parking lot to get used to the paddling feel.

Land paddling is super fun, safe to ride, easy to learn and a great core workout. We have been approached by many athletes that now actively Land Paddle with Kahuna Creations; MMA fighters, Triathlon Champions, NFL Hall of Fame football players, American Ninja Warriors, SUP Champions, Fitness Pros, Tennis Pros and Pro skaters. The feedback we have been getting is astounding! Kendall "da spider" Grove, PRO MMA fighter, enthusiastically explains that Kahuna land paddling is great for balance and core development. He said he hates working out at the gym, so he gets out on his landpaddling equpment and goes riding. Kelsey Withrow, World Champion Triathlete, loves landpaddling because "trathletes are used to working out uni-directionally. Biking, swimming and running are all uni-directional and only develop certain muscles. Land Paddling, gives her an overall body balanced workout to augment her physical fitness regiment.
We discovered that land paddling is a great outdoor activity that can provide balance, core training, upper body development, overall ligament and supporting muscles and tendons from your toes to you head. There are not many outdoor activities where you can get out at lunch and get a quick upper body and core workout that is super fun and invigorates your mind.
It is time to roll!

The Island Lifestyle Drop Deck is available now!
Kahuna Creations now has two new drop decks featuring Hawaiian artist Dennis Mathewson' designs. The Seeker AND Island Lifestyle longboards are a MUST HAVE in your longboard assortment.
What do you hope people feel when looking at this design?
"Hawaii really is a cool place full of contemporary art, food, music and a extremely unique tattoo art style. I share my view of Hawaii's people and their passion for the islands in this painting I call, Island Lifestyle."
What was your inspiration for the artwork of Island Lifestyle?
"While approaching the Island Lifestyle concept, I had in mind my friends and the people I know who live in Hawaii. The term we use is 'mixed plate,' meaning, we all come together from different backgrounds, likes and dislikes. That being said, we all form one community together. The mix of different ethnicities and cultures make Hawaii a unique and special place. Island Lifestyle shares what I see and feel as that view, with a little edge to it."
What does it mean to have your artwork featured on Kahuna Creations longboards?
“With Kahuna Creations weaving my artwork in with their products, my images will be seen on the streets as well as fine art galleries. My work initially started on projects like motorcycles and automobiles, so it is exciting to see it displayed outdoors once again,” said Mathewson.
We here at Kahuna Creations are honored to work with such a talented and world renowned artist. Mathewson's work is featured throughout the world and is sold online and in gallery's throughout the Hawaiian Islands.

It brings us a bit closer to our vision of honoring the Hawaiians who started board riding 100’s of years ago,” said McBride.
The longboarding community can expect to be enthralled by the intricate and breathtaking art work of the board. They will also be surprised by the maneuverability of the unique drop deck design.

When asked concerning the inspiration for the artwork of Seeker Mathewson responded with the following: "For years, I tried to capture a photo of a free swimming octopus, with little success. Face it, when this creature is in the open water it becomes bait to many predators. My good friend, Gary Simons, a dive instructor and captain on the big island provided me with a reference photo he captured from a dive. Although the photos was out of focus, I was able to recreate Seeker from this reference. I see Seeker as an octopus seeking refuge from the dangers of the open water.
The Seeker drop deck is available now! The board is MSRP @ $249.99

The soulful artwork of David Ray Gould has been featured on Kahuna Creations Surfboards, Longboards and Kahuna Sticks for over ten years. David's unique art ranges from his bold depictions of the ancient Ki'i Pohaku Hawaiian Petroglyphs to his soulful artwork featured on the Bamboo Drop Deck.
When asked about his artistic inspiration David said, “when I think about designs for Kahuna Boards, it all starts with the feeling I get when I ride. I am able to let everything go that is weighing on me in life, for the time I go riding. I feel like I am able to get my life back in sync. My designs reflect that feeling of my love of board riding.”
David went on to explain some of his artwork. “The Bamboo Drop Deck design weaves the "Zen" into the artwork by creating the bamboo art with the Chinese figures. The lettering means "circle of life". The Hydro design shows a cross section of a wave which depicts the movement of board riding to a deeper level. Not only what you see above the wave, but also what you don't see below the surface is what makes the wave. As you look at the history of the world, the first people on earth that actually invented a sport that had no purpose other than spirituality and fun are the ancient Hawaiians. The Hawaiians, if you think about it, are the inventors of fun! I weave the ancient Hawaiian images within the artwork to pay tribute to the ancient Hawaiians.”
Thanks David for your many years of delivering incredible artwork.

Kahuna Creations' Switzerland partner, Sportmania, organized an awesome Kahuna Landpaddling/SUP biathlon event. Competitors gathered on the beautiful Lac De Joix shoreline. Dozens of competitors entered the competition and had a blast.
Many thanks to Debora Zurru, owner of Sportmania, for organizing the event and spreading the Kahuna love. Debora was stoked, "The event was fantastic! All the competitors and fans had an incredible time. When I promoted the event on Facebook there have been so many shares from SUP groups and lovers I could not believe it! We expect next year's event to grow and continue to flourish."
USC student JJ Kirkpatrick reached out to the USC community to support a great cause of introducing underprivileged families to fitness equipment. Kahuna Creations' own Hank Rubenstein and USC alumni offered to help. Kahuna Creations was happy to donate multiple sets of longboards, Kahuna Sticks and of course some helmets to meet the community's needs. Hank stopped by one of the family's home and gave the kids instruction. The Kahuna Creations' donation meant so much to the community and It was awesome to watch the kids thrive and light up when they started riding! It was an honor to help the Los Angeles community introduce great fitness products to their children."To see the excitement in the eyes of these great kids was incredible. They jumped on the longboards and landpaddles and had a blast. There was good feelings everywhere" Hank Rubenstein, Kahuna Creations marketing.
Kahuna Creations rocked the Agenda trade show in southern California this summer. Chief Freewind has been featured on National Geographic for his tattoo work and is one of Kahuna Creations' master board artisan.
We had a great time visiting the North Shore Surf Shop crew in Haleiwa, Hawaii on the legendary north shore of Oahu where it all happens. North Shore Surf Shop is THE #1 surfshop in Hawaii and is rolling with the Kahuna Creations brand.

Franc Mendez is a recent addition to the Kahuna Creations 'Ohana and is stoked to share his experience. Aside from land paddling, Franc spends his time piloting vintage aircraft, his favorite being the Russian Warbird Yak 52. Franc flies for fun and in formation with other warbirds.
Franc says, "It's not everyday that one finds something this exciting as land paddling. I live in Phoenix, Arizona, but I'm formerly from South Africa. I like living in Phoenix, but I'm not close to water so I miss kayaking and water sports. I wanted to get into SUP having tried it in Hawaii, but I live at least 40 minutes drive from anywhere that would make SUP practical. This is what made Kahuna Creations and the sport of land paddling so appealing."
Franc continues, "It's important to stay fit and healthy for my job. I'm a long haul Boeing 777 pilot. My flights range from 12 to 15 hours long so I try to exercise between flights. I find running boring and it is tough to stay motivated to hit the gym. Land paddling on my Kahuna longboard gives me a fun total body workout. I highly recommend it as part of an exercise regime!"

All of us at Kahuna Creations are stoked about our new longboard shapes and designs. The Haka Longboard series has been completely reinvented! Introducing the Haka Neo, Haka Natural & the new and improved Haka Cruiser. The new Haka Neo and Haka Natural are stunning boards repping the Kahuna Creations Hawaiian petroglyph motif. The Haka Cruiser was redesigned with deep dark green artwork to mimic genuine tribal tattoos. The Haka boards are designed by surfboard and longboard artist David Ray Gould.
The Haka longboard is 47" long x 10" wide and is 1/2" thick (8 ply). The new shape has a heavy concave that flattens out towards the back of the board to enhance the turning power and stability as you ride. The back end was widened to add the classic moon tail design mimicking the classic surfboard shape. Everyone has been loving the new designs and shape of these boards.
Introducing Stephen Sottile, Kahuna Creations board rider and survivor of Cystic Frbrosis. "I was born with a genetic disease of Cystic Fibrosis that affects approximately 30,000 people nationally. Unfortunately most people with this disease do not live up to 30 years of age. Cystic Fibrosis thickens the body's mucus, damaging lung tissue and impairing normal digestive function and other frightening conditions. I was diagnosed at 3 months of age. The doctors told my parents that I would more than likely not live past ten years of age. Much to their surprise I am 52 years old. I started skateboarding in 1978 in neighborhood pools and homemade ramps. I progressed into surfing and surfed in the NSSA and started surfing competitively in the 1980's and was sponsored by Victory Wetsuits and IG surfboards."
The Hydro and Surf Rider Longboards have new and improved shapes! We are continually evolving here at Kahuna Creations, and we've made major improvements to both the Hydro and Surf Rider to enhance your ride.
The Hydro's tail has been widened for better control and the front now has a performance surf board shape with the tip curved up. The Hydro's large concave makes this board the most responsive board available. This is perfect for carving tight turns and riding steep hills. The Hydro is one of the most stable rides as well. It is also perfect for beginners making it extremely easy to learn how to turn while staying in control.
The Pohaku Surf Rider has a completely new feel to it. It still has some flex, but now it has a lot more stability. A little rocker was added for a smooth easy going ride. We added a heavy concave to the deck to increase turning responsiveness. The concaveflattens out on the tail for optimal control. This board is perfect for beginners and advanced riders alike.
Park City SUP put on an amazing SUP paddleboard event at Jordanelle State Park near Park City, Utah. Participants came from all over including pro standup paddleboarder Trent Hickman. Champions were made on the water and the road. The Kahuna Creations Land Paddle competition was a time trial open to all festival registrants.
We would like to congratulate Bill Fowler who won the Park City SUP Land Paddle Competition traveling 0.3 miles in 47.72 seconds.
Popular Bulgarian signer, Angel Kovachev, represents Kahuna Creations as he is interviewed about his latest hit single "Free". "BCN by Skate is the first Kahuna Creations shop to rent and sell in Barcelona, Spain! Lora & Ben, from the west coast of France (Hossegor), always lived in the world of board riding. After finding a large selection of land paddles from Kahuna Creations, they wanted just one thing...to share the awesome feeling you get when you ride with everyone! That's why they opened BCN by Skate in Barcelona, the European capital of skateboarding.
Our new tutorial videos walk you through each step of how to land paddle. We start from the beginning teaching you how to choose a Kahuna Stick, which foot is your lead foot, and how to get on your board.
Once you get down the basics we go through how to perfect your stroke, backside paddle, and how to stop.
We hope these tutorial videos are useful to you and help you master the art of land paddling. Practice makes perfect! Mahalo!
]]>The new Kahuna Creations Snapback Hat is making a huge splash. This new addition to the apparel line is perfect for both male and female riders. Its unique design will score you major style points and is a must add to any hat collection. Spoiler alert, Kahuna Creations saves the day on the action packed CBS television series Scorpion. Two 59" Bombora Longboards were used to save the Scorpion team from certain death. Scorpion producers contacted Kahuna Creations to use our boards and make this episode a success. We were happy to be part of such an awesome production. Check out the full episode "Crossroads", or watch the action packed scene Out of Control & Near Death Experience.
At Kahuna Creations we are always innovating and looking for ways to improve our products to enhance the board riding experience. Our latest and greatest is the new Haka Moko board shape. The new shape has a heavy concave that flattens out towards the back of the board to enhance your turning power and stability as you ride. The back end was widened to add the classic moon tail design mimicing the classic surfboard shape. Due to popular demand we have kept the current Haka Moko blue and black Māori design.
The new board is available to the public now! Be the first to experience the fresh new feel of the Haka Moko Cruiser!
Kahuna Creations was happy to be a prize sponsor at the big March Madness Flowrider Competition in Ogden, UT. There were a lot of talented athletes that competed for the Kahuna Creations grand prize.
"Kahuna Creations has always been such a great sponsor and supporter of the Flowboarding events at Flowrider Utah. There seems to be a similar culture and vibe across the multiple board sports scene and promoting each discipline is a great way to grow the passion and participation in events across the globe."
"Kahuna longboards are always a treasured prize at our events. At our March Madness contest this year we picked the SemiPro division winner as the recipient of the coveted longboard. It was a hard fought battle for first place between Ogden local female pro Dee Spencer and ProvoBeach up and comer Jordan Munoa. Both have a strong skateboarding background and have gained a passion for flowboarding. Dee won the first event in Ogden while Jordan took first place at his home wave Provo Beach. So we had the luxury of watching these two go head to head in a championship flow off to see who would take home the overall title. Dee came out strong with some solid big spins as well as a kick flip in her first run but ended up falling on another technical trick while she was trying to put pressure on Jordan. Jordan has major style and boosts some high ollies and shuvits with his signature grabs. He also was able to stick some big spins and a very clean kick flip to take home the win and the Kahuna Longboard. We look forward to future events and a continued partnership with Kahuna Creations."

Kahuna Creations is proud to announce Innerlight Surf Shop as the Kahuna Creations Shop of the Month. Innerlight Surf Shop has a goal to truly earn their title as "The Surfer’s Surf Shop". They’ve grown up with the surf industry and because of that they know products and services inside out and strive to be on the cutting edge of the latest trends and technologies. For this reason they've added Kahuna Creations Longboards and Land Paddles to their elite surf product lineup.
Started in 1969 by founder Yancy Spencer, Innerlight grew from a 400 sq ft cinder block building…into 4 locations from Pensacola, FL to Destin, FL. Yancy passed away in February of 2011 after surfing all day at one of his favorite spots in California. Since then the torch has been passed on to his family to continue in the same path. Innerlight is very involved with it’s community and sponsors many events, schools, and teams. Stop by any location and you will see why many people, including Kahuna Creations see Innerlight as a second home.
Mahalos!
Thanks so much for all the support over the years. Kahuna Creations has grown to a worldwide brand thanks to you!
The shield is depicted on the beloved Hawaiian Kahili Flag. It represents the symbol of the flag that was burned and destroyed by the invaders of the islands. The surfing symbol represents the Ki'i Pohaku petroglyphs carved by the ancient hawaiian board riders. Kahuna Creations pays tribute to those whom started it all. The silhouette of the Hawaiian Islands represents the love we all share for Hawaii. The circle circumscribed on the logo depicts the circle of life and how our love for board riding runs through the beloved Hawaiian Islands. The Spirit of Aloha runs deep in all of us...Long Live Hawaii!
Northern California has never looked so good. We had an awesome time shooting this video highlighting our master crafted longboards. Board rider Chase Wilson was the featured rider in "The Longboard Life" production. This video showed the versatility of our boards which were used to bomb hills, longboard dance, cruise, and surf the street.
Another year means another awesome trip to Orlando, Florida to show off Kahuna Creations longboards and Kahuna Sticks. Everyone was stoked to come see us in Orlando for the January 2015 Surf Expo. The Shaka Longboard Series appeared for the first time at the Surf Expo and received a warm welcome by retailers and industry insiders alike.
As always we were one of the most talked about products at the show and once again made an appearance in the Surf Expo recap video at 0:50.
Kahuna Creations is stoked to start the year strong with The Crowds Award from ShopsWindows.com! Kahuna Creations takes the win out of the ‘Sport, Surfing & Skateboarding’ category for our lineup of Longboards and Land Paddles.
Kahuna Creations was recognized for making solid boards since 2004; being called master longboard crafters and inventors of the Land Paddle.
ShopsWindows.com describes Kahuna Creations as an establishment that “provides surfers all over the world with an alternate way to surf on land”. Kahuna Creations loves being a part of the worldwide surfing community and is proud to accept The Crowds Award.
Our Shop of the Month is the Ohana Fun Company! As kindred Hawaiian spirits, “ohana” is the Hawaiian word for ‘family’, and representing Ohana, is Matthew Morphy of Carpinteria, California, who loves sharing the spirit of Land Paddling with friends and family.
“I gave Kahuna Sticks to my family years ago and it was a pleasure to bring them into our new store, Ohana Fun Company. They are literally ‘fun for the entire family’ and have re-invigorated me with skateboarding,” says Morphy. “Our customers love the idea of Land Paddling, and bring their love of ocean sports to the streets on Kahuna Creations' longboards."
Thank you Ohana Fun Company, and happy riding!
Kahuna Creations had the pleasure of spending this Valentine's Day with the beautiful women of the SoCal SUP Chicks. It was an early morning down at the Bahia Resort in Mission Beach San Diego, as the ladies headed out for their morning paddle. Upon their return to the shore they were met by Kahuna Creations with a whole array of long boards and Kahuna Sticks for them to demo.
The women could not resist the calling of the Kahuna Stick and immediately went from water to land and begin land paddling around. It was so much fun to see the women ripping around the parking lot and killing it with the Kahuna Stick. Big smiles were shared all around, as some riders basked in the nostalgia of getting back on a longboard.
Couldn't have asked for a better way to spend Valentines Day. We even got one member's 4 year old daughter, Lylie, cruising around with a Kahuna Stick and longboard. Adorable! Can't for next year!
Kahuna Creations is getting major international exposure teaming up with Johnny Rockets and Toro Santo in the upcoming Tarp Surfing Kahuna Creations Video.
We are anxiously waiting for the release of the epic tarp wave surfing video, but until then we can recall the previous video that Johnny Rockets Chile produced promoting Kahuna Creations.
"You Deserve Summer, But Until Then Kahuna Creations Will Take You There."

We are so excited this month to talk to the very rad Tati Coco! Tati is a language teacher, but also sees herself as an explorer, and loves to travel and live in a lot of different countries. She has been riding Kahuna boards for two years now, and rocks the Bombora/Kahuna Stick set up. Coco says she rides all the Kahuna boards, and also really loves the Black Wave drop deck board.
When faced with set backs to riding, Tati has come back with optimism and pure love for boarding. Coco says, “I had just learned to ride, and the second day I went straight to the hospital with a big surgery on my wrist”. Sports were out of the question for the next seven months. “After that, lots of people told me that skating was not for me, but for teenagers.” Tati says she overcame criticism, got back on the board and learned to ride and start doing little tricks. That’s what it’s all about.
Now she expects to keep pushing the envelope on board riding, “with time and perseverance.” Coco explains, “I just love to ride anywhere and discover new spots.”

Riding a longboard equipped with a Kahuna Stick gives you a complete, all-body workout. It’s a workout you can modify at your own will. You want a killer, muscle ripping workout? Try racing up hills. You want a mild, light workout? Coast down any beach boardwalk or bike trail, keeping at a moderate pace.
All these workouts transition into paddleboarding. You’re building your core, arms, chest, and back. You may not expect it, but you also work your legs. Most people are shocked that after a solid Land Paddle ride, their legs are sore. Whenever you ride, there is so much up-and-down, side-to-side movement that your legs are fully strengthened.
But wait for my favorite part of the Kahuna workout: the abs. With both Land Paddling and stand-up paddleboarding there is a tremendous amount of ab work, since you are essentially doing a million sit-ups to propel yourself (especially if you’re in good form). HOWEVER, when you are riding the street, you have a lot more force going downward than you do on the water. What does that mean? Your abs are forced to work harder in a downward motion on land than in the water. This downward force transfers into ripped abs. Not only does it give you more power for paddleboarding, it gives you an insane six pack.
I’ve been shocked at how bad 90% of the world’s balance is. However, almost everyone can Land Paddle without any problem. Trust me. I have literally taught tens of thousands of people how to longboard with a Kahuna Stick. Most people are hesitant to start riding, but when they step foot on a board, I usually can’t get them off. Once people start riding, they turn, carve, and dramatically improve their balance. It helped me get my balance nailed down, which totally helped me learn to surf and paddleboard the waves.
I will always remember my first big paddleboard race. I felt like I was about to give up the ghost and die. Every muscle fiber in my body was pounding to get my paddleboard to move. What was my problem? Well there were two. First I am going to go ahead and blame my gear. I was using a paddle a bit too short, and the board I was supporting was a demo board that I only used during the race. You might be able to guess my second problem: I didn’t prepare. Like at all. I paddled the course with my paddleboard ahead of time, but I didn’t do any type of endurance training. That’s where the Kahuna Stick comes in. If you’re anything like me, you can’t get to the water every day. BUT concrete isn’t hard to find. Land Paddle for a few miles as hard as you can, and watch your endurance shine. Work yourself as often as possible, and you’ll be crushing it on a stand-up paddleboard.

This is my take on how Land Paddling helps you stand-up paddleboard. Both are killer sports that make you feel free. Whenever you step on a board, all your worries seem to melt away. Endorphins kick in as you’re getting your workout, and you experience the ultimate thrill of board riding.
Land Paddling is so fun! Either way... riding by yourself or riding with family or friends, its a great way to get out and have a blast!
"There is something about board riding. When you ride, all your troubles vanish. Your mind and soul, for an instant, connect with something sacred. Our goal is to give everyone, of all ages, that feeling…Once you get it, no one can ever take it away."

The first weekend of October was stand up paddler’s paradise in Southern California. Rainbow Sandal’s Battle of the Paddle; the Super Bowl of competitive SUP, found its way down the West Coast at Salt Creek Beach. Two action-packed days of races brought some of the best riders from around the world into town, and of course Kahuna Creations as well.
Kahuna Creations took to the beach to teach the competitive SUP community about the amazing cross training benefits of land paddling. Paddlers of all ages loved the Kahuna stoke and excitement. The biggest names in SUP were on site, with a special guest appearance from SUP/surf legend Laird Hamilton. The venue was filled with amazing SUP attractions, physical therapy, art, and outdoor leisure booths to help ease the time between races. Between the energy and the beautiful beach, next year’s Battle of the Paddle 2015 at Salt Creek will be a must-attend.
November's Shop of the Month is Dive N Surf! Located in Redondo Beach California, Dive N Surf is one of the most popular surf shops in all of Southern California and is home to Body Glove. Dive N Surf has been in the surf business for almost 60 years! Kahuna Creations loves being a part of such an established shop.
Dive N Surf employee Alex enjoys a night riding session with the Shaka Surf Longboard and Haka Kahuna Stick. “It’s super smooth and fun to ride!” Alex says, excited for a land paddle break after work.
California natives, or any other riders cruising by the area, stop by Dive N Surf on 504 N Broadway, and come say hi to Tracy or any of the other friendly employees to check out the Kahuna selection.
With Winter on our heels, we have no intention of slowing down the adrenaline. Kahuna Creations is so excited for another year with the Kahuna Snow Stick. Last year we completely sold out of the Kahuna Snow Stick, and there has been even more growth and anticipation for this Winter season!
The Kahuna Snow Grip is used for snowboarding, and can be popped on any land paddling Kahuna Stick you already have, making it a functional, interchangeable piece of equipment year-round.
When the mountain levels out, snowboarders used to have to hop, jump, or kick off a binding just to get through the flat sections. With the Kahuna Snow Stick riders easily paddle through the flats and carve it up all over the mountain.
This is amazing for advanced snowboarders that want deeper carves. A Snow Stick also brings a world of entirely new possibilities in terrain parks. It makes cross-country snowboarding possible, and nothing beats the Kahuna Snow Grip to help newbie snowboarders keep their balance, none of which we’ve ever seen before.
This is another completely original sport by Kahuna Creations, but honestly, we can’t figure out why it hasn’t been done before. We worked with incredible engineers to create the perfect Snow Grip even in the worst snow conditions. Any snowboarder, new or advanced can appreciate the need for a Kahuna Snow Stick.
Kahuna Creations appeared in a special feature on University of Southern California’s Annenberg TV Network during October. Reporter Isaac Moody was recently introduced to the land paddling craze and couldn’t help but share it with the USC community. The piece featured Kahuna Creation’s Hank Rubenstein ripping around the beautiful campus and teaching the community about the fitness benefits and fun of land paddling.
This month’s featured Board Rider comes from Santa Catarina, Brazil! Alex Foizer is the owner of MONX Board Sports. He is a well-known advocate of Land Paddling, or as they call it in Brazil, “Street SUP”. Luckily, the Kahuna team has picked up just enough Portuguese to get to know Alex a little better.
Alex is a Jack-of-all-Trades in board sports, and can be found on any board, and of course land paddling. He loves long land paddling rides, and his sessions often go for an impressive 20 Kilometers.
“I use land paddling as training for endurance,” says Foizer “ I train for board sports and teach others to surf and stand up paddle out of the water with the Kahuna Stick.”
Alex spends his time with variations of surfing, and is always looking for new ways to contribute to these sports, especially in his Brazilian hometown.
“Street SUP is perfect” says Foizer, “It can also be great preparation for other sports. I teach others to Street Sup when learning to surf, kite surf, windsurf and wakeboard. It’s a great method of physical conditioning.”
Alex Foizer loves cruising through life with a board under his feet, Kahuna Stick in hand, and a smile on his face. Thanks for sharing the Kahuna love out in Brazil!

Meeting at Maui and Sons skate shop on the Venice Beach boardwalk, we explained the company's origins, fitness benefits, SUP cross training function, and how much fun our riders have.
After the interviews Lori got on a board herself and filmed our weekly riders as they paddled around the boardwalk.
It was so much fun to teach Lori who took to land paddling like a natural. After Lori finished up the piece we paddled off into the sunset for our weekly ride!
